png files to keep you from just importing the file. Many scores posted on the internet are done by folks who know this and those. pdf is a picture of a score and contains no font info, then it cannot work. pdf file and try to read the font info contained therein. There are some apps that claim to scan but do not. Like with Finale/SmartScore Lite, their Lite version only works with Sibelius but the full version can work with anything. There's a scanning app designed to work with Sibelius called PhotoScore. If any editing needs to be done (and editing always needs to be done), you do it in Finale after you import the file. Music-to-XML is a black box: scan in/.xml out. pdf files.Īlthough Music-to-XML does not have an available demo, Musitek will convert a file for you in pre-sales so that you can check it out. Having used SmartScore Lite in the bad old days, I am amazed at how good X2P is with. SS X2P can also import other types including. tiff and not importing everything (a lå SS Lite) is no longer an issue. Again: There's a 30 day trial available for SS X2P no demo for Music-to-XML. I just can't imagine using a product that doesn't let me do that-even if I save $99. It has all of the functionality of Music-to-XML plus a lot more including (ESPECIALLY) the ability to edit your scans before exporting them to Finale via MusicXML. I would spend the extra $99.05 for SmartScore X2 Pro. > And even if you don't have the older version, as a Finale owner, you can purchase SmartScore X2 Pro for half price, $199.< You can demo X2 Pro but can't demo Music to XML. If you buy it, you have a $200 upgrade path to SmartScore X2 Pro - same as you do for owning a copy of Finale or Print Music. It is available as a standalone app only and the cost is $99.95 If I could go back, I would, but Mac's Sierra won't let me and that's the biggest problem of all.Music-to-XML is the product that was to have been included with 25 but was dropped before release. I thought you guys did but these last two versions just prove otherwise. Oh well, some companies get it, and other's don't. I noticed several people are unhappy with it when I read other comments. The design goes from pretty to, well."butt ugly" and sterile. Then boom.2014 arrives and things start getting clawed back and taken away. It always seemed to get better and better, adding things on, so people never missed something they had gotten used to. I would upgrade regularly and never had any complaints about changes made from one version to the next. I started with Finale 2004 when I was teaching music in high school here in Canada. It feels now like it's all about business and cutting corners. Was there some kind of corporate take over? It seems like that you lost good people who understood our needs better. You had 2 years to improve things and here you are. I'm not sure what happened when 2014 came in. With 2012, you could adjust colors, backgrounds, palettes thereby making it easier to see and understand. Finale as it is now, offers no possibility of adjusting the look to accomodate people who are visually challenged. In the world today, more and more companies design their software to accomodate clients who are challenged. That's another great feature that was taken away. Fine if your hell bend on a sterile no colour look. At least if the background was white and the images black they would be more visible. I have to get really close to the screen to see them. All the images are darker grey on lighter grey no contrast. Before it was obviously a feather ink pen. I find the palette icons really hard to see and identify, even with my glasses on. He had the best analogy that I have to share with you."The solution of eliminating this function to prevent plagiarism is like eliminating the automobile to prevent drunk driving". I'm a composer arranger, so understand the copyright issue, but like William said in another post, if people are going to cheat, they'll find a way. Seems kind of silly though having to go to that much trouble. Luckily I still have an old Finale 2012 version that I can use for that. It was as much work to correct all the scanning errors as it was for me to just input the notes one by one. I'm still trying to find a good alternative to scan music and SmartScore was never that effective. Trying to get MIDI tool to produce the same flexibility is next to impossible and takes a lot of time. Not the first time I complain about this one and apparently others are having tempo control issues as wel This tool used to be all in one and so easy to use. Forced to change from 2012 because of the MAC Sierra OS and boy, after spending several weeks using it daily, I'm getting more and more frustrated.įirst, the Tempo tool. I have both Mac and PC versions of Finale 25.3.
